Cpl Resources team wins the IJA Golf Cup in 2022

The IJA Annual Golf Outing 2022 tournament took place on 5th September at the beautiful Foxrock Golf Club, Dublin.

We would like to thank all the teams who supported us and participated in the tournament this year, and we send special congratulations to the winners – Cpl Resources team – who came first and won the IJA Ishikawa Cup in 2022!

Tom Tanaka, Chair of SMBC Aviation Capital

Tom Tanaka assumed the position of Chairman of SMBC Aviation Capital in April 2020. Prior to this, he held the position of Deputy Head of the Transportation Business Unit and Corporate officer of Sumitomo Mitsui Finance and Leasing (SMFL) in Tokyo. During his career between 1989 and 2019, he has held a variety of roles in Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) across many markets including General Manager, Asia & Pacific/Planning of the Global Advisory Department in Tokyo, General Manager & Country Head in Sydney and General Manager of the Aviation Capital Department in Tokyo. Tom was also a key member of the acquisition team who managed the takeover of SMBC Aviation Capital from RBS in 2012 while he worked as Joint General Manager of SMBC Europe Limited in London. Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering from the University of Tokyo and an MBA/MS from the University of Pittsburgh where he featured on the Dean’s List.

Niall Barrett, VP Commercial Negotiation & Execution (UCD BA in Psychology)

Niall is a Vice President in the Commercial Negotiation & Execution Team which oversees the negotiation, co-ordination and project management of the company’s leasing, trading, restructuring, financing and OEM transactions at contract stage through to delivery and closing. Niall is currently based in Tokyo, Japan. Niall joined SMBC Aviation Capital in 2015 and prior to this role was a member of the Credit Risk team.  Niall graduated from University College Dublin in 2014 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology, and also holds an MSc in Marketing from the Michael Smurfit Graduate Business School.

Breifne Ryan, VP Aircraft Trading (UCD BSc in Economics & Finance)

Breifne joined SMBC Aviation Capital in 2014, working initially with the Strategic and Market Analysis Team looking at industry trends and values. Breifne then joined the Commercial Analysis and Execution Team in 2016 where his responsibilities included commercial assessment and evaluation of all company transactions including asset acquisition, placement and trading and ensuring that transactions were appropriately priced, hedged and executed. Breifne then joined the Aircraft Trading Team in 2017 and is based in Tokyo. Breifne holds a BSc in Economics and Finance from University College Dublin and is a CFA charterholder.

Mina Takeshita, Analyst Commercial Negotiation & Execution (Hitotsubashi University, BA in Economics)

Mina is an analyst in the Commercial Negotiation & Execution Team which oversees the negotiation, co-ordination and project management of the company’s leasing, trading, restructuring, financing and OEM transactions at contract stage through to delivery and closing. Mina is also responsible for assisting with the insurance function within the team.  Mina joined SMBC Aviation Capital as a secondee from SMBC in January 2020 . Prior to joining SMBC Aviation Capital, Mina worked at SMBC in the Corporate Business Office in Tokyo where she was in charge of providing financial solutions including lending, cash management and transaction services to small and medium size enterprises. Mina holds a Bachelor’s degree in Economics from Hitotsubashi University and she also studied at the University of Minnesota on an exchange programme.

Orla Benson, SVP Communications and The Nest (UCD BA in English & French)

Orla joined SMBC Aviation Capital in 2016 as SVP Communications.  She has recently been seconded to the Nest (the company’s innovation hub) to work on a number of sustainability projects and she also sits on the company’s EDI (Equality, Diversity and Inclusion) committee.  Orla was previously a Director of a Dublin based public relations consultancy.  She holds a BA international degree in French and English from UCD and an MSc in Management and a higher diploma in Business Studies, both from the Smurfit Business School in UCD.

Brian McArdle, SVP Aircraft Trading (UCD BEng in Electronic Engineering)

Brian is based in Dublin and has shared responsibility aircraft trading in the Americas and Europe, as well as responsibility for the GAEL fund within SMBC Aviation Capital.  Brian joined the company in 2004  and has been part of the SMBC Aviation Capital Aircraft Trading team since 2010, including 6 years based in Asia with responsibility for growing the company’s Japanese and Asian trading business.

Mitsubishi Electric team wins IJA Golf Outing Cup 2021

The IJA Annual Golf Outing 2021 tournament took place on 13th September at the beautiful Foxrock Golf Club, Dublin.
