SUMMARY:Between The Stones: Performance Demonstration Lecture | Phase 2
DESCRIPTION:We are delighted to invite you to attend Performance Demonstration Lecture (Phase 2) of the new noh drama ‘Between The Stones’ on 8th February 2019. \n \nThis performance demonstration talk is designed to introduce audiences to the key elements of noh and to have a close up and interactive experience of how a new noh is developed from ‘page to stage’. \nDate: Friday\, 8th February 2019\nTime: 7.30 p.m.\nVenue: The Mill Theatre\, Dundrum Town Centre\, Dundrum\, Dublin 16 \nTickets: €14/€12\nTickets can be booked online HERE! \n‘Noh’ is classical Japanese theatre which combines dance\, drama\, music\, poetic text\, exquisite costumes and masks into a highly aesthetic form of art that has been performed continuously for 650 years. \nThe focus of the new noh\, Between the Stones\, is ‘from tragic loss to peace’. It explores how the burden of grief turns into an understanding and celebration of life\, death\, beauty and love; and the transformative power of gardens to nurture and heal the soul… It also uniquely brings together three Japanese cultural forms – noh\, karesansui gardens and furin (wind chimes). \nThe professional noh actor\, Kinue Oshima\, the composer\, Richard Emmert\, and the author of this new two-act English language noh drama\, Jannette Cheong\, will share key aspects of how this new noh will be transformed from the poetic text to the stage production using traditional noh techniques. \nThis is the third noh performing arts collaboration between Richard Emmert and Jannette Cheong and the second with the Oshima family following the acclaimed success of Pagoda (2009 European Tour\, 2011 Asia Tour). \nCome and join this unique team to have a deeper understanding of the 650 year-old theatre of noh\, and learn about the second\nimportant phase of this rare\, new collaborative noh project. \nMore information (brochure) can be found HERE. \nThe event is supported by Ireland Japan Association and The Mill Theatre\, Dundrum \n \n

SUMMARY:Getting To Noh - From Page To Stage (Phase 1)
DESCRIPTION:You are invited to attend an Illustrative Talk & Reading of the new noh drama ‘Between The Stones’ on 23rd September 2018. \nThis is phase one of a three-phase project. It will provide an opportunity for an up-close understanding of Noh from ‘page to stage’ and will be of interest to those engaged in\, or fascinated by\, Japanese arts and culture. The whole project will also build new relationships and share ideas and learning through cultural and educational engagement both inside and outside the world of Noh. \nDate: Sunday\, 23rd September 2018\nTime: 2.30 – 4.30 PM\nVenue: RHA\, Royal Hibernian Academy\, 15 Ely Place\, Dublin 2 \n \n  \nWhat is noh? And how is a new noh in traditional style conceived – from ‘page to stage’? \n‘Noh’ is classical Japanese theatre which combines elements of dance\, drama\, music and poetic text into a highly aesthetic form of art that has been performed continuously for 650 years. In contrast to its minimalist stage\, noh uses elaborate costumes and exquisitely carved wooden masks. \nThis Illustrated talk and reading is designed to introduce audiences to the key elements of noh and to have a close up and interactive experience of how a new noh is developed from page to stage. \nThe new noh ‘Between the Stones’ brings together three iconic Japanese cultural forms (noh\, karesansui gardens and furin wind chimes). It was written following the deaths of family members and a mentor and friend close to the author. The piece explores how the burden of grief turns into an understanding and celebration of life\, death\, friendship\, beauty and love; as well as the transformative power of gardens to nurture and heal the soul… \nThe author of this two-act English language noh drama\, Jannette Cheong\, will share her experience of noh and how a new noh is developed from the poetic text in preparation for a stage production. \nThis is the third noh performing arts collaboration between Jannette Cheong and Richard Emmert following the acclaimed success of Pagoda (European Tour – London\, Dublin\, Oxford\, Paris 2009\, Asia Tour – Tokyo\, Kyoto\, Beijing\, Hong Kong 2011) and Opposites-InVerse (London 2017) . \nTo book your place\, please RSVP by Thursday\, 20th September by email: info@ija.ie or call: 01-6787008. \nMore information about the noh ‘Between the Stones’ and the brochure can be found here! \nwww.betweenthestones.com
